The Iaido Kata of Mugai Ryu are rooted in Jikyo Ryu Iaijutsu, wich was learned by Tsuji Gettan Sukemochi and all successive generations of Mugai Ryu practitioners. In the Himeji line of Mugai Ryu, Jikyo Ryu was fully incorporated into the curriculum of Mugai Ryu by its sixth Soke, Takahashi Hachisuke Mitsusuke, and finally reformed into the contemporary four sets of five Iaido Kata by Nakagawa Shiryō Shinichi (11th Soke of Mugai Ryu).
The Kenjutsu Kata of Mugai Ryu Meishi Ha include, besides the traditional Mugai Ryu Kenjutsu Kata, of techniques, wich were added curriculum over the course of the years. The limited number of the original Kenjutsu techniques, comprising the essence and root of Mugai Ryu, are reflecting Tsuji Gettans philosophy of simple effectivity and closeness to Zen.
Tameshigiri is the cutting exercise with the sharp Katana (Shinken). Herewith, the effectiveness of the techniques, as well as the mindset of the practitioner is taken to the test. Mugai Ryu Meishi Ha stipulates the ability to truly cut in every technique.
